Access to Quality Health Data: A Catalyst for Innovation
Access to high-quality health data drives innovation and transformation in healthcare. Reliable, secure, and well-structured data enables better outcomes by uncovering patterns, generating insights, and supporting decisions. It empowers researchers, innovators, and policymakers to:
- Develop groundbreaking medical technologies and treatments.
- Improve patient outcomes through targeted interventions.
- Enable data-driven policy decisions to strengthen healthcare systems.
Quality health data accelerates breakthroughs, from predicting disease progression to fuelling AI-driven diagnostics and personalized medicine. Unlocking its full potential requires robust infrastructure, security, and compliance to maintain trust.
The European Health Data Space (EHDS), a cornerstone of the European Health Union, addresses this need by creating a unified framework for accessing and exchanging electronic health data across the EU. It enhances individuals’ control over their data while enabling its reuse for research, policy, and innovation. The EHDS also supports a single market for digital health services and establishes harmonized standards for electronic health records (EHRs) to ensure interoperability and foster innovation.
SHIFT-HUB and Dynamic Health Data powered by RAISE
SHIFT-HUB enhances access to and use of health data through its partnership with the RAISE project and link to its data platform and marketplace.
The RAISE platform provides an intuitive solution for researchers, innovators, and other stakeholders, enabling a distributed, crowdsourced data processing system that shifts from open data to open-access data for processing.
Similar to home-sharing platforms that connect hosts and guests in a trusted environment, RAISE ensures secure and controlled data sharing. Data providers retain full control and ownership of their datasets, keeping them securely within their own infrastructure. Instead of downloading data, data processors send their algorithms to the data for remote processing. Every interaction is recorded using blockchain technology, ensuring traceability, attribution, and compliance with data protection regulations like General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) through a persistent identifier akin to a digital object identifier (DOI).
Whether you aim to access reliable data or share your work responsibly, RAISE ensures recognition, security, and accountability for all participants.
